PxLab Demonstrates Long-Term Future Readiness – Laboratory Upgrade in the USA during 25 Years of Operation

PxLab.Modernization of an Automatic Cement Laboratory
KMI replaced in Belgium an existing automatic central laboratory consisting of two preparation lines. Thankx PxLab to a smarter, reliable Laboratory.

KMI has successfully completed another modernization of a PxLab automated cement laboratory in the USA – a system that was originally installed and commissioned by us in 2001.

As part of the upgrade, two existing mills and one pellet press were replaced with two modern mill/press combinations and seamlessly integrated into the system. To achieve this, we adapted the existing belt handling system and updated the motion sequences of the robot system to accommodate the new equipment.

The key benefit for our customer: the modernization was carried out without replacing the entire Lab system. Thanks to the modular PxLab concept, individual components can be upgraded efficiently, bringing the laboratory once again to the latest state of the art.

The modularity of the system has proven itself repeatedly over more than 25 years: new analyzers and new equipment were seamlessly integrated, and discontinued components were flexibly replaced by systems from the same or different manufacturers.

The laboratory is controlled via PxLab and the customer’s PCS 7 control system, which has been successfully adapted across multiple versions over the years – further demonstrating the long-term stability and integration capability of the solution.

This project clearly demonstrates the future readiness of PxLab:
A system that has been in successful operation for over 25 years can continuously evolve thanks to its modular architecture and modern web-based technology – enabling ongoing upgrades, modifications, and expansions, even in the next decades.
